Lights Down Low is back again and ready for another special night. We are up for Best Monthly Party at the San Francisco Nightlife Awards and May 18th will sure show everyone why. Ben UFO a co-founder of Hessle Audio along side Pearson Sound and Pangaea are responsible for some of the most ground breaking releases of recent years including James Blake and Untold. Just what we are all about at LDL. Ben UFO is frequently featured by Resident Advisor, XLR8R, Red Bull Music Academy and Fact Magazine. Turning in brilliant podcasts that are sure to make anyone a fan! On top, Ben UFO placed #35 in Resident Advisors Top 100 DJ poll of 2011. A very big honor and yet another reason why we are so excited to have him on the decks! Ben has an incredible ability to successfully deliver unfamiliair, experimental dance music to a diverse variety of audiences worldwide.
Joining Ben on the VOID Soundsystem downstairs at Monarch will be a special live set by Octo Octa one of the hottest up and coming producers in the game. The brooklyn-based artist calls the Los Angeles label 100% Silk home. “Seeing Octo Octa live is another deal entirely; as his performances are usually full of vigor and insatiable energy from start to finish.” (URB) Not just URB has noticed however, buzz for Octo Octa’s upcoming release has been circulating everywhere while listeners wait with much anticipation. A perfect pairing for what we are all about at LDL, bringing you new music to dance and have fun with all your friends.
Getting the night started will be none other than LDL residents Corey Sleazemore, Richie Panic and Joaquin Bartra. We wish that May 18th was here already… See you all on the dance floor!

6 years…wait…6 YEARS?! Lights Down Low, has been happening at least every month for 6 years now? It’s incredible to think that our little party has persevered through all this time and is now going stronger than ever. We’ve stuck it out through an economic depression, outlasted venue reconstructions and closures, cycled through multiple generations of SF party patrons, and did all this while showing you the most fun possible with the top DJs in all genres of party music. If our lil baby was actually a baby, we’d be sending her off to 1st grade. In fact on this 6 year anniversary, with the help of our good friend Dax, we WILL be sending you to school. This month’s amazing roster of Ewan Pearson, Danny Daze, Tim Green, Worthy, Todd Edwards, CREEP, LOL Boys, Jamie Acid Girls and more will be teaching you how to get down and wild proper. We are proud to say that we have upped the ante and are going bigger than ever. Come celebrate this momentous occasion with us and raise a glass to not only 6 years of amazing times but also Eli Glad’s last Lights Down Low as a partner! He will be missed!

The end is here. 2011 is drawing to a close. Soon, we’ll be in the midst of December holidays and year-end resolutions, but before that, lets celebrate the best of times we’ve enjoyed over the past 11 months. On 12.2.11 we kick off the wind down with the biggest event Lights Down Low has done all year…actually, to date. This phenomenal lineup is comprised of the best rising artists of 2011. We’ve been putting this epic event together since February and along with Public works, are ecstatic to finally present it to you in all its glory.
Benoit & Sergio (who have never performed in SF until now), in our opinion, are the best new act out there. Ghostly International described them the best: “Benoit & Sergio don’t make dance tracks—they tell stories. In the Washington, DC duo’s music, a sense of place and narrative infuse their rhythms and melodies, transcending the confines of “tech-house” or “electronic pop” and entering a genre-free realm of cinematic imagery and visceral pleasures.” They provide a sense of relaxed excitement that artists are rarely able to tap into. No Regular Play are right there with them. At the forefront of the Wolf + Lamb crew out of Brooklyn, these two put together some of the best live dance music out today. NRP are going to provide an aural delight that we don’t anticipate being able to shake for days.
What happens when three prominent men of SF nightlife come together for an amazing musical collaboration? PillowTalk. This trio are getting an incredible amount of hype, all of which is completely deserved. Also playing in the main room, we’ll have Rich Korach from the amazing SF party, As You Like It. Upstairs in the OddJob Loft, we have the legend who basically DJ’s all of Los Angeles: Thee Mike B. This is Mike’s first time playing LDL, which is ridiculous, since he is such a great friend and even better DJ. Local homies SOSOSOON join him in getting the party really going upstairs.

As 2011 is winding down, we are refusing to let up. Lights Down Low is back with another top tier lineup that will make the rest green with envy. Thank you for the continued support this past year and enabling LDL to get bigger and bring out amazing acts such as these. LDL is known around the world as one of the best parties not only SF, but the US has to offer and it’s due to your support. YOU are Lights Down Low and we love you for it.
This November we are hosting the Hot N Heavy Recordings 2 year anniversary party. These guys are on the forefront of Bay Area Bass music and constantly putting out the best music around. Frontman Justin Carr, AKA Commodore 69 and Co-operator Michael Harms are the genius’ behind it and we are happy to have the crew team up with LDL for this special night.
Headlining this extravaganza of rad is FaltyDL, a man who creates music that’s as fun as it is complex. Hailing from NYC, FaltyDL draws from a vast range of influences from Miles Davis to Squarepusher and brings a fresh perspective to the ever expanding genre of ‘bass’ music. The man recently came off a major tour with RADIOHEAD, playing alongside Four Tet and Pearson Sound! Also headlining, we have newly imported Pittsburgh native, Kastle. Having just made SF his new home, Kastle immediately made some waves and perked some prominent SF ears with his mind-blowing set at The Do-Over SF. We are happy to bring his same energy to the LDL stage. The Hot N Heavy heads Commodore 69 and Sam Supa, are going to be getting the night geared up by throwing down some solid jams together for what is guaranteed to be nothing but the best time.

Halloween is just around the corner and we have some top notch acts bringing you spooky ass beats to get you in the mood. Join us at Som the Saturday before the 31st for a bit of a Halloween pre-party, Lights Down Low style. Get your costume in order early this year, because this event calls for it. In fact, you will even get discounted entry at the door for wearing it!
Last time Pearson Sound was in town, the man sold out Public Works and put on an AMAZING show. Ever since, we’ve been working on booking him for LDL at Som and that time has finally come. We are ecstatic to have him play our special Halloween LDL and get creepy with us. Our good friend and hometown hero, Christian Martin is back and ready to slaughter the dancefloor again. It’s always a pleasure to have him and we look forward, as always, to another killer set from that monster. We are proud to host the fast rising Manaré, straight out of Paris. If you haven’t heard this man’s goulish sounds, get on it, cause he is about to breakthrough in a BIG way. Happy Halloween!

If you haven’t noticed by now, we here at Lights Down Low have been working our asses off to bring you the absolute best shows/parties possible. I’d say we’ve succeeded recently (araabMUZIK & Trouble & Bass SF to name a couple) but we have no plans to slow down. Case in point what we have in store for you next…
Stepping away from our home base, Som, we are doing a special offsite LDL at 103 Harriet in conjunction with the Dubapolooza party at 1015 Folsom and our promo homies Free From Innocence, Sunset and AnTenAe to bring you a HEAVY hitting lineup that you will want to be there for. Trust us.
Headlining the LDL room we have Round Table Knights all the way out from Switzerland for a very rare performance in SF. This tropical house duo has had some of the biggest dance singles of the past year and we couldn’t be more excited for them to come show you in person. The next two are no strangers to the LDL stage. Kingdom and Brenmar have both come and conquered our little party and are thirsty for more. Who are we to say no? They keep getting better and better and bigger and bigger but love LDL all the same. Get ready. Last, but definitely not least is Total Freedom up from LA who we have been wanting to bring in for quite some time. That time is now and he’s going to be amazing. Just you come and see…

Did you get wild last month with Dave Nada, Canblaster & Franki Chan? We sure did. That tropical goodness was resonating through SOM, kicking off summer in the best way possible. This month we have Munchi, who picked up what Mr. Nada started and ran with it…hard and fast. Staying true to form of our Lights Down Low summer series, this second installment is an extension of the first. All the moombahton/tropical bass madness is …back and we can’t wait to bring it up another notch.
